Our Employee Volunteer Council.
The Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow recently honored NV Energy's Employee Volunteer Council with a "Citizens of Distinction" Award.
Pat Shalmy presented the award to the Council in recognition of their outstanding volunteer contributions. Local dignitaries were also present to acknowledge their achievements.
NV Energy established the Employee Volunteer Council in 1996 to promote volunteerism and community involvement. Council members are employees from diverse backgrounds who have been chosen to perform essential roles in our corporate giving and volunteer programs.
Each year members of the Council choose several nonprofit organizations to become NV Energy's focus for that year. Council members work with the charity so it cant take advantage of our network of more than 1,800 employees and families who want to lend a helping hand.
The Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow is a local nonprofit that helps the unemployed or people working in low-wage, low-skilled positions, to learn the skills needed to get a good-paying job. The majority of clients served by the Foundation are poverty-stricken, single working mothers with no formal education beyond high school.
